Cost: $100 per semester for 12 one-hour, online classes
In this live, online class, middle school writers will learn how to craft strong paragraphs and will learn how to write a basic essay. This class will be helpful to students who are new to essay writing as well as students who have a little more writing experience. Students in this class will also learn the parts of speech, the parts of the sentence, sentence diagramming, and some basic usage rules that will help them on their journey to becoming better writers. In addition, they will develop confidence, improve vocabulary, and engage deeply with language by reading, memorizing, and reciting poetry. Students will have the opportunity to build both their academic and creative writing skills and to share their writing with their peers in order to become part of a supportive writing community. (Students who take this class will also be invited to join students from the Middle School Advanced Grammar and Writing Workshop class for a 30 minute storytelling club inspired by The Moth from 2:15 to 2:45 on Mondays.)
Homework Expectations – approximately 1 to 2 hours per week
