“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” If these words, often attributed to William Butler Yeats, strike a chord with you, and if you are looking for a learning community where that fire can be lit in a supportive and fun environment, Tulsa Homeschool Academy might be just the place for your family!
Tulsa Homeschool Academy was borne of a desire to give our kids a shared academic experience in an inclusive environment. After years of talking about sharing the task of teaching our children, Anna-Maria Lane, Anne Brooks, and Sarah Koepp tested the waters in Spring of 2018 with a writing workshop consisting mostly of our own children. After its success, and with the help of Natalie Bennett and Casey Ferris, we then moved to a full day co-op, and the following year Kristin Riffe joined THA as our early elementary teacher. Most recently, Jessica Paul, who has been a THA teacher for several years, joined the leadership team. As we have continued to expand classes and attract more students, our goals have remained unchanged. We aim to create a community of learners and to inspire a lifelong love for learning while nurturing our students’ social and emotional growth.
We offer Monday and Friday in-person academic classes and a Friday Enrichment Day for pre-k through high school students. Our Friday Enrichment Day began at All Souls Unitarian Church and then moved to Chandler Park due to COVID, but now we are back inside at a church in Broken Arrow and expanded for Fall 2022 to offer a twice-a-week option! Two of our certified teachers also offer online classes. See the Online Classes section of our website for more information.
